BOINC stands for Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing, or what is, a program designed to use multiple computers on calculations of certain scientific projects.
It is best known as the system adopted by the SETI @ home project, although this is not the only one that one can join and contribute as you can see on this page.
Join a project is as simple as following the step by step wizard, you must first enter the address of it ("http://setiathome.berkeley.edu" in the case of SETI @ home), then we can create our own user using the program within minutes.
BOINC runs in the background using our equipment for scientific purposes when we do not make use of it and also can be configured as a screen saver, displaying statistics about the tests done. |
